These Marrowfat pea seeds were put up in packets here at Hancock Shaker Village. The Shakers were the first ones to package seeds in this way. An Old English Soup Pea from the 1700's, this fine variety of pea was not only grown by the Shakers but by such notables as Thomas Jefferson. Garden peas require sunny, cool, moist, fertile growing conditions. Sow 4 to 6 inches apart a month before the last Spring frost.  Plants need support (i.e. trellis or branches)
