Instrumental. Coulter and Phillips have become known for their elegant instrumental renditions of Shaker tunes. While the Shakers didn’t use musical instruments until the 1870s, and never used guitar (Coulter) or cello (Phillips), the duo sensitively render this material as beautiful chamber music. Other instruments featured on this, and their other two discs, are psaltery, mandola, fiddle, flute, whistle, oboe, English horn, harp, hammered dulcimer, and mountain dulcimer.
